The Story of Colours

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful. The favorite.

Green said: "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority."

Blue interrupted: "You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."

Yellow chuckled: "You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun."

Orange started next to blow her trumpet: "I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papayas. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you."

Red could stand it no longer he shouted out: "I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy."

Purple rose up to his full height: He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey."

Finally Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."

And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.

In the midst of the clamor, rain began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me." Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. The rain continued: "From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow." And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a Rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another (Quoted from http://www.nidokidos.org/viewtopic,t,7601.html).

Each of us have our own weaknesses and strengths, which if combined together, will make a perfect combination. Many of us only think about ourselves; what we want; what is important to me. To fulfill our selfishness, some choose to trample on others. Remember that love beget love and hate beget hate. so, don't be shock if the person we use to trample will do the same things to us when they got chance. Even if it is not them, other may do the same thing. don't forget this phrase, " Do unto others as you would like them do unto you".

This world will be cheerier if we respect each other .Work places will be merrier if we work along side and no back stabbing each other. Home will be happier if all members respect, love and care for each other.... " Do unto others as you would like them do unto you".

Take A Break

It's been two weeks since I posted my last input. For the past two weeks, I've already quite busy with day-to-day office works, and I was entrusted with new responsibilities. These extra new loaded responsibilities come in forms of a part-time lecturer, appointment as a new head committee for one of the many committees established in my workplace, and many invitations to give talks to schools, not to mention the meetings and courses I was and am compelled to attend. All these new tasks were not my doing. It is all imposed on me. One good thing is, it is a reflection of others recognition on my abilities to handle those tasks. The negative impact is, I don't have much time to indulge in my pleasure such as posting new inputs in this blog of mine.

So, today I want to take a short break and share this funny story ( can we call it a story? well, I'm not sure) with you all. Before I received this story, I always thought that lawyers are intelligent people asking intelligent questions. Now, they seem as normal to me as any of us...
These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters who had the torment of keeping a straight face while these exchanges were actually taking place.

Life Lesson

BETTY AT THE PARTY
'When I was at the party,'
Said Betty, aged just four,
'A little girl fell off her chair
Right down upon the floor.
And all the other little girls
Began to laugh, but me -
I didn't laugh a single bit,
' Said Betty seriously.
'Why not?' her mother asked her,
Full of delight to find
That Betty - bless her little heart! -
Had been so sweet and kind.
'Why didn't you laugh, my darling?
Or don't you like to tell?'
'I didn't laugh,' said Betty,
'Cause I'm the one who fell.' Anon

Marriage vs. Divorce???

150 Happily Married Couples Feted

KANGAR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Senawi Mat Saman, 74, and Mariah Abdullah, 65, never gave a thought to celebrating their wedding anniversaries, but last night they were among 150 couples feted at a function themed "Cinta Abadi 40 Tahun" (40 Years of Lasting Love) held at the Menteri Besar's official residence here....

I love reading the above article by Bernama. Those people enjoy the resilient marriage that endures time and trials. However, how many of us having the advantage of long lasting marriage, let along the ever enduring love???.

A few weeks ago, I got a news of my friend's divorce. I feel sad. My friends and her ex-husband were childhood sweetheart. All those years, they managed to keep their love and understandings alive... and just after a few years of marriage ( nearly 7 years), they decided to take different routes ending the love that lasts 12 years. I also have some other friends who fell in love during university years, married during, and some after their study, and fell out of love a few years later.

Divorce now is a so social phenomenon. There's always news in newspapers or electronic media reporting about divorce among the high figures be it politicians, artists etc.etc... and even sometimes the divorce among commoners are also publicised or reported.

Why???

The subject of divorce during our fore fathers were a taboo. Not that they didn't have divorce.. it just that it is considered as an embarrassment ... the failure of a man or woman. Present, this term may have little stigma. Some people seeking divorce to get freedom, others fell out of love, some more because they cannot stand the marriage strains, and a lot other excuses.

In my opinion, many reasons can be the causes of the uprising divorce rate. First, social trend nowadays put family behind the material acquisition. People are so busy with their career and acquisition of material wealth that they forget the wealth of having good family bonding. No wonder now we can see children sending their parents off to old folks home as they don't have time to look after them. Those material wealth will not wait for them. Spouses spend less time together. The offices become the first home and their home become some kind of hotel... just a place to rest and change their attires. Some talk more to their colleagues than their spouses or children.

Second, women now are more liberal and independent. So, many will think that a divorce will not bring an end to their world. So, instead of staying in problematic or loveless marriage , they'll choose to lead separate lives. Some may even asking for a divorce even if the marriage is in good condition in order to get the so called freedom enjoyed by the singles??? It is so different from the old times where women were dependent upon their husbands that many had to stay in disastrous marriage.

Third, the interaction of man and woman are more free compared to the olden days. Now a girl can sit and talk to any man at the park or beach without causing an uproars among the parents or villagers or can we say townees. They can even hold each other and no one will come and scold them for the immoral behaviours. This kind of interaction may cause the falls in and out of love as rapid as 'Rapid KL' (ask Lembah Klang folks what is Rapid KL). So these culture sometimes might be carried into marriage life.

The free interaction also provides opportunities for them to sometimes seeks the counterpart help or advice regarding problem in their marriage. It may lead to sympathy and then eventually, love may blossom. Furthermore, man or woman get a chance to know more people of the different sexes and thus can compare and contrast.

Actually, we can find thousand reasons for the rising of the divorce rate. However, the last point I want to put forward here is the interaction of a couple before married. One of my friend told me that she once listened to the speech given by Dr. Abbas Hassan. According to Dr. Abbas, the 'barakah' or blessing of God is important to ensure the happiness and enduring marriage. Some people only start to look for His blessings after the 'aqad' or marriage solemnization, or when they are going to have a baby. They start to pray together, some may listen more to Al-Quran during their pregnancy etc. They forgot that their interaction and behaviours during the courting time is crucial to get Allah's blessing.

It is common for us to see couple holdings hand together, spending time and absorbing with each other that they forgot the night and day, let along prayer times. Folding and holding each other become trend, some may even sleep together. All these behaviours may bring wrath of Allah and when they got married, the blessing is not there. So, when problems arise, it becomes big momentum that change their relatioship.

Besides, those couple may already know the inside and outside of his/her partner and marriage is no more a process of knowing and surprising your partners. Thus, after a few years, you may get bored and start looking for other surprise.

RSI: Work Related Injuries

This morning I've received an email with a very useful information. The email tells me about the work related injuries commonly faced by office worker which is known as RSI.

Before this email, I've always felt neck strain in the end of the day. My fingers sometime got numb. I got back problems also. However, I've never thought that this stiffness and numbness is part of tea tale of the becomingly most common injuries befall many workers around the world. I also believe that some of us may not know that the computers we mostly used in our everyday work may cause serious injury that may end our career. So, before it is to late, we should come out with some precaution to prevent this injuries from ending our career or make our live miserable with all those kind of back pains, neck pain etc.
What is RSI???
RSI is a short form for Repetitive Strain Injury. It is used as an umbrella term to refer to various kinds of work-related musculoskeletal injuries - for instance, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Thoracic outlet Syndrome, Tendonitis, Tenosynovitis, Epicondylitis, Neck strain, Lumbar strain, and others.Such injuries are also known as Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs), Work-Related Upper Limb Disorders (WRULDs), Occupational Overuse Injuries and Computer Related Injuries (CRI).
What is The Root Cause of RSI???
1. Poor body mechanics
2. Poor work habits
3. Inappropriate workstations set up
What are the Symptoms of RSI???
1. Pain and discomfort
2.Heaviness
3.Unusual sensations like tingling, burning, pins- needles sensation and numbness
4. Decreased flexibility
5. Muscle weakness, loss of grip strength
6. May even disturb our sleep
What should you do???
If you got any of these symptoms, please do not ignore the problems or take pain killers or even thinking of taking long holidays hoping that the pain or discomfort will go away. You should also avoid going to gym or helping yourself to massage thinking that it may eliminate the symptoms. These actions may make the pains go away temporarily or may cause it to become more severe.

What you should do is to get professional medical help. At the same time, do something to prevent the injuries from coming back. Out there are a lot of professionals dealing with occupational safety and health. They can advise you on the proper workstation setup, postural training, good work habits etc to ensure the employees safety and health

Shopping in Kota Bharu

Last weekend I went to Kota Bharu with my friend. The reason for the journey was Career and Cultural Carnival jointly organized by Ministry of Higher Education, MARA Technology University and Himpunan Siswazah Negeri Kelantan. At first, I was invited for talk and end up being one of the committee for the carnival.

I stayed at Grand Riverview Hotel, a four star hotel at the bank of Kelantan River. This is my first time I stayed in Kota Bharu for days. Before this, I've visited this unique town for a few times but only for a few hours.

The hotel is nice... and what is more important is, it is situated near the famous Siti Khadijah Market, Kelantan Batik Centre or also known as Bazar Buluh Kubu and MPKB Market or Central Market. All these shopping destinations are within a walking distance from the hotel.

Whenever I had free time, I visited Siti Khadijah Market and Kelantan Batik Center. In Siti Khadijah Market, you can find a lot of traditional food and Kelantanese items and I ended up buying 6 kg of "Dodol', a traditional desert for my friends and family back home.

I enjoy my visit to Kelantan Batik Centre most. Really beautiful. If you are Batik lovers, do prepare some money to spend here. You'll be attracted to the beautiful Batik cloths, women blouses, men shirts, 'Songket', souvenirs and etc. with various types of fabrics, patterns, drawings and colours combination.

In between Siti Kadijah Market and Kelantan Batik Centre, there is a food court called Laman Siti Khadijah. I tried one of the stalls there and the food and drink are tasty, which is quite difficult for me to find in Kota Bharu as I am a hot and spicy food lover. My previous visits to stalls and restaurants in Kota Bharu are quite a disappointment. There you can also found few people selling jewellery and accessories with a very reasonably cheap price.

The Central Market is also within walking distance from the hotel I stayed. At this market, you can find a lot of traditional Kelantanese foods and items. However, I didn't manage to visit this place.

Other popular haunt for shopping that I managed to go is the famous night market of Wakaf Che Yeh. It is about 20 km from the hotel. Here you can find almost anything from food, clothes, souvenirs to kitchen utensils. The market starts from evening until early morning.

I plan to go there again in a few more months. This time I plan to bring more money. Kota Bharu is a shopping haven for me to buy clothes and accessories. I have a lot of choice and and the price is also cheaper compared to other cities that I've been in Malaysia.

Your Blood Types and Eating Habit

According to Abraham Maslow (1908 - 1970), an American Psychologist, famous for his humanistic approach in his theory of motivation, food is considered as the basic need. In his theory of Hierarchy of Needs, he mentioned about the Physiological Needs at the bottom of the pyramid. This Physiological Need that includes food take precedence over other needs such as Safety, Love/Belonginess, Esteem and Self-Actualization.

Food is a powerful force in our everyday life...and our eating habit is also complex and unique. The pattern may greatly be influenced by our upbringing which may includes our parents or families, our customs and culture and so forth. Friends may also induce our eating habit. Other factors that may beget the pattern of our consumption is mass media; the campaign, advertisements and so forth.

Our eating habit may be good for our body or may be bad. However, most of us unaware that our blood type also should be considered in choosing the correct food for our body.

According to Dr. Peter J.D'Adamo, a naturopathic physician, our blood type is a genetic fingerprint that is more powerful than race, culture or geography. It all has to do with lectins, a diverse group of proteins that are present in certain foods. He claims that negative reactions between food lectins and our blood are responsible for many ailments. His solution is to avoid the foods that contain all those bad lectins. The list of what's good and what's bad, however, is extensive and differs dramatically according to your blood type.He suggests that we eat according to our blood type. That is why we can see that some people can eat a variety of food with no problems where as there are others suffers from gas, bloating, indigestion and heartburn. The reason is because people from different blood type cannot eat or digest the same food equally.

Food Category:
Basically, food are categorized into 16 category; meat and poultry; seafood; dairy products and eggs; oil and fat; nuts and seeds; dried nuts; grains; bread and muffin; pasta, wheat and rice; veggies; fruits; juice and water; spices; condiment; herbs; and various types of drinks.

Blood Type:
1. Type O
People with Type O blood make up the biggest world population that is 46 % . The 'O' group should take food with high protein such as red meat and low carbohydrates food. They should avoid oats, wheat, and most grains as well as nuts as they are more prone to hypothyroidism, high stomach acid ( which can lead to ulcer) and thinner blood with greater resistance to blood clotting.

2. Type A
Type A blood people is the second largest population that is 40%. They are supposed to eat more carbohydrates and avoid meat as they are unable to digest a lot of meat, especially red meats. This people tend to be constipated and sluggish.

3. Type B
People with Type B blood make up 10 % of the world population. This group can have the most varied diet, including meat, and theirs is the only blood type that does well with dairy products. They also have the best chance of overcoming or bypass the everyday deseases such as heart disease and cancer. However, Type B people should avoid chicken.

4. Type AB
Type AB blood make up 4% of the world population. They have the benefits and intolerance of types A and B. They should basically stick to fruits and vegetables which have high carbohydrates and low fat. They have thicker blood than other blood types, a sensitive immune system, and should not consume dairy products, animal fats and meats. They are at a heightened risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.

Since now we know that our blood may react differently towards the same type of food, we should be more careful with our food intake. We must remember that most ailments are resulted from food. So, start eating towards a healthy life.

Personality Test 2

Anyone interested to take personality test?

I like taking personality test since I was in university; taking psychology course as my degree, I was exposed to many types of personality test. Reason??? I like to know more about myself...my strengths, weaknesses, my unique qualities. Why??? Because knowing my self help me to be better person and perform better in areas I choose. How??? Because from the test, we know what we are good at and what we are not good at. Thus, it gives us chances to improve our attributes and to indulge in the fields that meet our interests and at the same time fulfill our capability.

There is another 'why' I like taking personality test. Living in Malaysia, most people be it Malays, Chinese, Indians or other Asian races, we are very reluctant to tell others of their weaknesses. This may be resulted from Asian culture which is very concern about others' feelings. So, if nobody tells us about our weak points, how are we going to eliminate or improve it? For me, if nobody is going to tell me my weaknesses, I'll choose personality tests.

Some of the tests are quite accurate as long as you answer base on your heart, not your intelligence. Some people however may resort to other kind of search.

Why is personality Test?
Personality test as I mentioned above will show us the superior and inferior attributes that we posses. These attributes can help us and others to predict our performance either in work place, social setting, study and so forth.

Most big organizations in the world as well as Malaysia have resort to personality test as one of the means to select employees. Why? Because your hard skills or qualifications are no longer the only indicator for job performance. One recent study suggests that personality measures like conscientiousness and agreeability were equally important predictors of work success. Why? Because if you have an “A” class of qualifications or hard skills but with an “F” class of mentality or attitude, you are going to be a lousy worker… and lousy worker is an impediment to any organizations, not an asset.

So, why not start taking personality test to know ourselves better, and to upgrade ourselves in certain portions. Below are some online personality tests you can try to see what are our personality look like.

Welcome to MyPark

Hi everybody! This is my first blog. I've been introduced to this world of blogging in a two hour course in May 22nd, 2007 on blogging. The result of the course is SalinePark. Why SalinePark??? Saline is a nickname given to me by my dear friends during our university years... a period of knowledge quest. I am not saying that the acquisition of knowledge end right away after we finish study. For me, knowledge is a lifelong matter. Thus, for me, Saline represents knowledge. I hope SalinePark will soon become a favourite platform for all of you who want to gain and share knowledge and information. ...and if you find SalinePark is useful, don't forget to invite your friends to visit SalinePark.
